GINBEX 120mg Ginkgo Biloba Extract

Introduction
The Ginkgo Billoba is the oldest living tree specie,  estimated to be 150-200 million years old. it has got characteristic fan shaped bilobed leaves. the extract of Ginkgo Biloba was first brought to Europe in the 1700s and now it is one of the most commonly Prescribed drug in France Germany. Now it is also popular in The United States and parts of the world. It is one of the most well Researched herbs in the world. Ginkgo represents one of the Most studied and commonly used herbal remedies in the World. The National Health Interview Survey found that
Ginkgo was the seventh most popular natural products in the United States in 2007.over 400 clinical trials have been Performed looking at a variety of medicinal properties and Clinical uses. A number of clinical studies have given evidence that Ginkgo Prevents and benefits may problems throughout the entire body Especially due to its neuroprotective properties and ability to aid Circulatory problem in elderly.

Constituents:
This standardized extract of Gingko Bilboa contains 2 active Constituents I,e Flavonoid Glucosides 24% namely kaemferol, Quercetin And Isorhamentin, and Terpene Lactones 6% namely Ginkgolides A,  B, C, and Bilobalide. The medical benefit of Ginkgo Depends upon the proper balance of these two active compounds.

PHARMACODYNAMIC: 
Generally, Ginkgo works by increasing blood flow to the brain and Throughout the body's network of blood vessels. This leads to Improved supply of blood and oxygen to the organ system. Studies Have shown that GBE stimulates release of two potent vasodilator From the arterial endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF). These effects have shown to increase total perfusion by a significant
Percentage. The Flavonoid component of Ginkgo acts as antioxidant by snatching free radicals. This results in reduced lipid per oxidation and protects against cell membrane damage. This antioxidant properity has beneficial effects particularly in brain, retina of the eye and cardiovascular system. The Ginkgolide component in terpene lactone compete with and inhibit Platelet Activating Factor (PAF) and thus prevents against platelet aggregation. This improves blood flow especially in brain as well as in peripheral circulation or extremities. Biobalides are thought to stimulate regeneration of damaged nerve Cells. These are therefore responsible for improving memory and
Mental function.

INDICATIONS:
1.    Cerebrovascular insufficiency impairment and its functional manifestation i.e. Congnitive disorders involving memory. Attention, awareness, etc. For Example, Alzheimers Disease,Dementia Specially Associated with aging (senile dementia).
2.    In addition it is also helpful in Tinnitus, vertigo, Menieress Disease and Macular Degeneration.
3.    Depression, resistant to standard Antidepressants like tricyclic antidepressants.
4.    Peripteral vascular disease e.g. Diabetic foot,etc.
5.    Sexual dysfunctions of vascular Origin Especially secondary to use of antidepressants.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
The recommended daily dose range in 120-240 mg in divided dose. However in most of the conditions the higher dose i.e. 240 mg to be taken as 1 tsf b.i.d. is preferred for better result based on the disease and in severity, it should be used as prescribed by the physician. Optimal Duration of treatment has not been determined. Most patients require months before significant effects are felt in chronic conditions the Ginbex should be administered for at least 4-8 weeks before evaluation of efficacy, it is proved that the longer the treatment in continued the more obvious and lasting the result
are.

CHILDREN:
Ginbex in not recommended in children under 2 years of age. As studies have been not conducted in children, use above 2 Years should only be done after consulting the physician.

FERTILITY PREGNANCY:
In experimental no indication were found for embryo toxic, Mutagenic or teratogenic effects. Oral administration or up To 1600mg/kg/ day rabbits did not produce teratogentic Effects. In addition reproduction was not affected. Human data onadverse affects of Ginkgo preparation with respect
to fertility, pregnancy and lactation is not available. Ginbex should only be used during the first trimester of pregnancy if this is justified by the anticipated therapeutic Benefit up to now there has been no evidence of any increase in the risk of malformation in humans.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Ginbex should be avoided in patients with know Hypersensitivity to the drugs  ingredients. Should not be Used in patient with Hemophilia or other bleeding disorders.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
The combined use with aspirin has been reported to cause Subdural hematoma in some individuals. Use with aspirin and other anticoagulants e.g. Warfarin should therefore be
avoided or done with extreme care.

Adverse Effects:
Ginkgo Biloba extract appears to be well tolerated. The Occasionally reported side effects are gastrointestinal Including nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, loss of appetite And heartburn. These effects are usually mild and transient.

PRESENTATION:
1.  Ginbex is available as syrup 120ml containing EGB 761 as 120mg\ 5 ml in pet bottle and special heat and light resistant thermo pore packing.
2.  Ginbex is also available in capsules, each of capsule contains 120mg of EGB in plastic bottle of 30capsule packins.
